Flight from an uncontrolled field to a tower: Stouffville to Oshawa
Practises a short flight from an uncontrolled aerodrome to a towered one: self-announced taxi, takeoff and departure calls on the aerodrome traffic frequency, then the initial call to the tower at a VFR call-up point, the joining clearance and its readback, the final report and the landing clearance (NAV CANADA VFR Phraseology guide, MF Start Up/Taxi/Takeoff pp. 54-55, Aerodrome Traffic Frequency pp. 56-57, Basic Circuit Pattern p. 28 and Landing p. 41).
The situation
You are the pilot of C-GABC, a Cessna 172 at Stouffville (CBB2), flying to Oshawa Executive (CYOO) for a full-stop landing. You depart Stouffville on your own broadcasts, then head east at 2,500 ft to Claremont, Oshawa's VFR call-up point, and call Oshawa Tower. The Canada Flight Supplement entry for Oshawa cautions about winch-launched hang gliders, cable up to 2,000 ft AGL, about 11 NM west of the airport: that is near your route. You have listened to the Oshawa ATIS before Claremont: information Delta.
